Full Description
General modernization, industrialization and further urban development of Sarajevo after the WWII, as a capital of Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as one of the total of six republics of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, resulted in developing Sarajevo as one most important industrial centers and one of the fastest growing cities in newborn Yugoslavia. The pinnacle of Sarajevo’s modernization were the 1984 Winter Olympic Games, which resulted yet unseen infrastructural development of Sarajevo, helping Yugoslavia become the first ever communist country to host the Winter Olympics. This tour will primarily focus on the Brutalist architectural heritage of Sarajevo from the period of Yugoslavia, in an attempt to uncover the role of politics in urban development of Sarajevo and explore the reasons why Sarajevo became the most mixed city of former Yugoslavia.

4 months agoWhat a fascinating and varied day trip! It also included the 1984 Winter Olympics sites. Besides the day excursion we booked, Funky Tours went out of their way giving us tips on restaurants and typical Bosnian cuisine. Our guide Mustafa was great! Very knowledgeable and a great sense of humour. The pace and value for money of the day excursion was good. We can highly recommend Funky Tours!

4 months agoWe did the East Bosnia and West Serbia day trip from Sarajevo and it was great!! Our guide Alem was friendly and super knowledgeable about the country and the tour stops, and it was also great to hear about his own personal experiences. The vibe was very relaxed and as a small group of 6 people, it was almost like a road trip among friends :) The tour day (about 12 hours) was packed with a lot of destinations and we felt that we had enough time to experience each destination. There was a lot of walking if this is relevant for accessibility. Email communication with the company was also easy and friendly, with the option to pay by card or cash. We would definitely recommend this tour and Funky Tours! Thank you :)

a month agoIncredible service received from Ema and crew at Funky Tours. My two boys (15 and 12) and I, booked on their Catamaran for three nights, touring around Kornati and Krka national parks, stopping at some fantastic destinations along the way. The trip couldn't have been organised better, the food was superb and the local insights charmed us. If you want to experience the beautiful country of Croatia in a unique way, choose Funky Tours 👌🇭🇷♥️

a month agoWe went to the Sarajevo Total Siege Tour with the War Tunnel included a week ago and it was so worth it. Our guide Adnan offered to pick us up at our hotel before the tour started, which was very kind. The tour in itself and hearing the guide, a veteran with own experience of the war telling us about the siege, was both powerful, interesting and deeply moving. To even imagine what it must have been like in Sarajevo (and the rest of Bosnia) during that time and to visit part of the (claustrophobic) tunnel that was used to link the city, was really food for thought...it is a reminder that peace is never something to take for granted. I have historical interest and specifically in this awful war, but I don't think one must have that specific interest to think the tour worthwhile. Adnan is also a really good guide with lots of factual and personal stories to tell, and often not without a little bit of humor here and there :) Highly recommend!

a month agoHad a wonderful experience with the two tours we booked, one on the Siege of Sarajevo, and the other on the genocide in Srebrenica. The guides were helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about their topics; we learned so much just from chatting with the guides. Organizing the tours were very easy and the staff who set it up were super responsive and friendly too. A model experience on how a tour should run. Highly recommended.
